2022 & 2023

Brief: The brief for this exclusive invitation only exotic menu dinner event had one very simple direction; "Make it masculine. Very masculine. Also, think about Teddy Roosevelt."

For 2020 (which ultimately became 2022's design) I pulled from the planned featured menu item for the design inspiration: snake. I selected a texted purple overstock for the invitation cover that featured an embossed foil stamp logo with a fading subtle silver foil for the snake skin texture effect. Sadly as the covers were drying at the print shop the pandemic took effect and the event was cancelled.

 

Fast forward to 2022 and the dinner was back on but snake was no longer on the menu. The 2020 covers had been warehoused with hopes of being reused, so now the challenge was how to do so. With snake was no longer available the chef moved to alligator which fortunately gave me some room to make the scale pattern still viable. The embossed date stamp was die-cut out to reveal the title and date on the first page, the interior re-themed to gator and we were off!

For 2023 the one bit of feedback was "the purple was nice but maybe not masculine enough. Be more masculine and more Roosevelt." With that in mind I explored a theme that embraced the gentlemen hunter of President Roosevelt's time period and mixed in a dark deep wood with a copper highlight color palette. Classic gentlemen hunter imagery combined with a boldly sportsmen type treatment round out the visual direction for this exclusive dinner event.

The invite features copper and black foil with an embossed wordmark. More than masculine enough this time around. I'd like to think Teddy Roosevelt would be proud.
